FLOATING SHELF QUESTIONS

Do my floating shelves come with the holes predrilled?

Yes, we rebate the rear of the shelf to hide the bracket and drill the holes.

How much weight will my shelf hold?

All brackets will have a weight capacity of up to 40kgs - 80kgs when installed correctly* (including the weight of the shelf).

Each steel rod has a weight capacity of 20kgs* and each bracket has a minimum of two rods. Larger shelves have three, even four rods.

How do I install my floating shelf?

We recommend a qualified installer to install our shelves, however, any handy person should be able to install using our instructions provided here.

If no masonry or timber studs are available, it’s up to your discretion whether or not your wall will be able to handle the weight. We don’t recommend mounting our longer and wider shelves with just plasterboard wall plugs. If using only plasterboard wall plugs and screws, maximum weight will depend on the wall plugs you have used, the condition of your wall, and whether the wall plug has been installed correctly.

Welds and Wood accept no responsibility for the failed installation of your bracket and shelf.

*When installed using our install methods. Instructions are available in our Support section.

Why is my floating shelf bracket sagging?

It’s important to secure your bracket to the wall firmly using all of the recommended screws as we have outlined here.

Can you please make sure the bracket is installed as per the images in this section. The screws must be really tight and along the top row of slots, right next to the pegs. One screw next to the peg for smaller and lighter shelves, two screws next to the peg for longer and heavier shelves.

If all this has been installed correctly, try this:

  1. try flipping the bracket the other way.

  2. Try flipping the shelf around the other way

  3. Lastly, pack the underside of the bracket with a playing card or two, right under the pegs. This will slightly angle the bracket up and correct any sag.
